Early Strategic Move Sets Industry Milestone: Revenue from Hybrid Handset Lens Sets Doubled in 1H25

 

In the consumer electronics sector, Sunny Optical Technology began its strategic layout as early as 2016, focusing on the R&D of hybrid technology utilizing aspherical glass. The following year, it achieved mass production of the world's first hybrid handset lens sets, setting a major industrial milestone. In 2022, another breakthrough was made when Sunny Optical Technology took the lead in mass-producing a hybrid handset lens set with aspherical glass for 1-inch large-image size main camera, followed by a hybrid handset lens set with aspherical glass for 200-mega pixel dual-group periscope camera, consistently driving the advancement of optical imaging systems. Furthermore, leveraging its self-developed active optical alignment process, ultra-low reflection coating technology, and high-precision molding platform technology, Sunny Optical Technology has significantly improved lens utilization and production yield. This not only effectively addresses industrial pain points such as stray light and ghosting but also enables high-precision, high-efficiency mass production and delivery, thereby strengthening its global competitiveness.

 

In the first half of 2025, the Company’s revenue of hybrid handset lens sets increased by over 100% year-on-year. Thanks to advantages such as thinner designs, higher light transmittance, and superior temperature drift stability, these lens sets are expected to be rapidly adopted across more mainstream models from various smartphone brands. Simultaneously, alongside the rapid growth of its action camera and wearable device businesses, the Company’s hybrid operations in consumer electronics sector are expected for high growth in 2025, with this strong growth momentum is anticipated to continue next year.

 

Breakthrough in Core Hybrid Technology Further Solidifies Global Leadership

 

The hybrid lens sets in the automotive ADAS sector are for cost reduction, while  they are for a pursuit of quality enhancement in the consumer electronics sector . These lens sets reduce costs by over 50% compared to all-glass lens sets, with lighter weight and well-suited for mass production, making them highly commercially attractive. In this sector, the Company began its layout even earlier, achieving mass production of its first ADAS hybrid vehicle lens sets as far back as 2012. We are the first global supplier with mass-production capability for such lens sets, accumulated over 40 million units in shipment. Addressing common industry challenges associated with hybrid lens sets, such as thermal stability, oxidation-induced yellowing of plastic lenses, coating reliability, and issues arising from high-pixel applications like eccentricity error, sensitivity to tolerances, image defocus, yellowish tint, film cracking, stray light, and ghosting, the Company provides comprehensive solutions. These leverage specialized anti-yellowing materials, scientific plastic selection, proprietary coating processes, and forward-looking optical design and simulation technologies.

 

Furthermore, capitalizing on the inherent characteristics of hybrid lens sets, the Company has successfully developed ADAS hybrid vehicle lens sets integrated with functions like active heating and active cleaning. These significantly enhance the lens sets adaptability to harsh environments such as rain, fog, dust, and low temperatures, further consolidating its global leading position.

 

Currently, Sunny Optical Technology has completed the R&D of an 8-mega pixel ADAS hybrid lens sets, with mass production expected in next year or two. Hybrid lens sets are expected to become the mainstream in the ADAS vehicle lens sets market, with an estimated annual growth rate exceeding 50% in the coming years. Faced with the vast development prospects and long-term growth potential of hybrid lens sets, Sunny Optical Technology will continue to be driven by innovation.
